Dubai Work Permit

Overview

Most Immigrants arrive in Dubai after already securing employment, and don’t have to deal directly with the complicated process as employers usually take responsibility for the visa application process, and thus the work permit, while also acting as the sponsor for the visa. The law requires employers to absorb the costs of applying for a work permit.

Step 1: Job Offer and Initial Approvals

  • Job Offer: Secure a job offer from Dream Path Overseas or an employer based in Dubai.
  • Approval from the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MOHRE): The employer must obtain initial approval from MOHRE to hire a foreign worker.

Step 2: Employment Entry Visa (Entry Permit)

  • Application: The employer applies for an employment entry visa on your behalf.
  • Processing Time: This usually takes a few days to a few weeks.
  • Entry Permit Issuance: Once approved, you will receive an entry permit allowing you to enter Dubai for work.

Step 3: Entry to Dubai

  • Travel: Use the entry permit to travel to Dubai. Ensure you carry all necessary documents, including your passport and the entry permit.

Step 4: Medical Examination

  • Health Check: Upon arrival, you must undergo a medical examination at an approved health center in Dubai. This includes tests for HIV, hepatitis, and tuberculosis.
  • Medical Certificate: Obtain a medical fitness certificate upon passing the health check.

Step 5: Emirates ID Application

  • Application: Apply for an Emirates ID at the Emirates Identity Authority (EIDA) service center.
  • Biometrics: Provide biometric data, including fingerprints and a photo.
  • Processing: The Emirates ID will be processed and can be collected later.

Step 6: Residency Visa Stamping

  • Document Submission: Submit the following documents to the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA):
    • Medical fitness certificate
    • Passport with entry permit
    • Employment contract
    • Photos
    • Emirates ID application receipt
  • Residency Visa Stamping: The residency visa will be stamped in your passport, which is typically valid for 2-3 years, depending on the contract and employment terms.

Step 7: Labor Card

  • Application: Apply for a labor card from MOHRE. This is necessary to legally work in Dubai.
  • Documents Required: Passport copy, entry permit copy, medical fitness certificate, photos, and employment contract.
  • Issuance: The labor card will be issued and must be kept safe.

Step 8: Collecting the Emirates ID

  • Collection: Once your Emirates ID is ready, you will be notified to collect it from the specified EIDA service center.

Step 9: Compliance and Employment

  • Employment Compliance: Begin your employment as per the contract terms and ensure compliance with Dubai’s labor laws.
  • Renewal and Maintenance: Stay aware of the expiration dates of your residency visa and labor card. Ensure timely renewal to avoid any legal issues.
